Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts houses internationally renowned organizations including The New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera,The New York City Ballet, and The Juilliard School of Music. The Lincoln Center is operated by these and other major art organizations, and each with their own administration and board of directors. Here they are listed alphabetically: Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Film Society of Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Juilliard School, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

The Lincoln Center got its name from our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln who issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1861. He freed all of those who were enslaved within the confederacy. When celebrating the 50th commemoration of the Lincoln Center in the newly renovated Alice Tully Hall, the festivities were, of course, in celebration of the Great Emancipator, Lincoln who the place has gotten its name from.

There are hundreds of activities and shows available here in a single month. In the first week of August there will be 32 entertainment options available to see and or participate in. Some entertainment starts as early as ten in the morning and on certain days there are activities and shows as late as eight at night. There will be activities for families, couples, and even the solo visitor. There will be family story times on the lawn and dance classes in the morning here at the Lincoln Center.

The Lincoln Center is on 16.3 acres and has a 6.6 hectare complex of buildings in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It has thirty indoor and outdoor facilities and hosts over 5 million people annually. Just walking around the center offers a great look into American architecture and some of the history of New York.

There are even restaurants to enjoy before or after activities. We suggest the upscale Lincoln Ristorante at 142 West 65th Street, Lincoln Center Plaza, New York, 10023. It is open from 4 until 9 in the evening, Tuesday through Saturday and only closed on Mondays and Sundays. They are a fine dining experience and you can reserve a table at opentable.com and see their menu online before visiting.

The Lincoln Center has 2 parking garages on the property and they are on either side of the property from each other. The one on the South side is called SP+ Parking and is for the David H Koch Theater and on the other parking lot is prominently for the Lincoln Center Theater; it is also called the PS+Parking.
